Chelsea are planning a move for Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic

Chelsea have identified VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic as an alternative to Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

Sasa-Kalajdzic-Chelsea

The Blues’ priority is to sign Erling Haaland as a new center-forward this summer. Despite his tender age, the 20-year-old Haaland has already made a name for himself as one of the best strikers in world football – he scored 57 goals in his 59 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.

The Norwegian international’s top scorer in the Bundesliga has put him on the radar of many elite clubs, including European champions Chelsea. While the Blues continue to have keen interest in him, a potential obstacle to any deal is the gigantic £ 150m fee Dortmund is currently demanding for their star striker.

This has led Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea to consider cheaper alternatives, with Stuttgart’s Sasa Kalajdzic recently being linked to a move to Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old Kalajdzic scored 16 goals in 33 Bundesliga games last season, helping the newly promoted Stuttgart to midfield. The performance of the center forward even helped him to break through in the Austrian national team, most recently the 24-year-old was part of Franco Foda’s squad for Euro 2020.

Chelsea need 2-3 high quality signings to fight for the Premier League title

Thomas Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge in January and completely turned the club’s fate. He led Chelsea to their Champions League title last season and beat Manchester City 1-0 in the grand final at Estadio do Dragao in Portugal in May.

However, the retirees have not made a single commitment this summer. With almost six weeks left before the summer transfer window closes, Tuchel must quickly achieve his transfer goals in order to improve the current squad to fight for the title in the Premier League in the coming 2021/22 season.

The Blues are still keen to recruit a striker

Olivier Giroud has moved from Chelsea to AC Milan despite the fact that the West London club took an option to extend their contract for a further 12 months earlier this summer. The departure of the French left Tuchel with Tammy Abraham, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz as the only options in the top.

Regardless of whether Tammy Abraham finished the 2019-20 season as Chelsea’s top scorer in the Premier League with 15 goals in 34 games, Tammy Abraham is not in Tuchel’s plans for the future. The England international is expected to be sold this summer, with Crystal Palace, West Ham and Arsenal associated with his signature.

Timo Werner and Kai Havertz initially struggled to adapt to the physical and rugged demands of English football, but the duo put on many impressive performances for the Blues towards the end of the season, with Havertz scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final against Manchester City .

Tuchel will continue to support the German duo, but wants to make more competition in the next season. Hence, signing a striker is one of his priorities in the transfer window.

Should the blues choose Sasa Kalajdzic?

Last season, Sasa Kalajdzic proved to be a good striker in German football with 17 goals in all formats. With a height of 1.80 m, the center forward was a nuisance for the Bundesliga defenders in and around the penalty area and led the attack for Stuttgart very well.

The Austrian international uses his large frame effectively by holding up the ball and bringing his teammates into play. He also falls deep into the link game and can also play number 10 while scoring a lot of goals.

At Chelsea, Kalajdzic could be the focus of Tuchel’s attack, with feeders like Mason Mount, Havertz and Werner around him. The 24-year-old’s eight header goals last season show how deadly he was and can be in the penalty area. He has certain ingredients in his game that would make him look good at Stamford Bridge.

That being said, the Austrian striker could be a clever, cheaper alternative to Haaland for Tuchel’s Chelsea.
