Tottenham are close to signing Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, according to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
We passed on a story from Italian outlet Calcio Mercato on Saturday that Spurs were interested in the 26-year-old and Romano confirmed that the deal is now close to being closed.
Gollini has been with Serie A for the past four and a half seasons after being loaned out by Aston Villa for 18 months in 2016 before signing his permanent deal three years ago.
Romano believes Gollini will spend the 2021-2022 season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite Nuno Espirito Santo’s team having an option to extend the loan for another 12 months and an option to purchase for € 15m.
It is unclear whether the Italian will immediately become number one next season or whether Hugo Lloris will compete before replacing the 34-year-old when his contract expires next summer.
However, Golloni’s imminent arrival could spell the end of Joe Hart’s stint in north London, with the former England goalkeeper potentially sliding even further down.
