Crystal Palace has made an inquiry about Schalke defender Ozan Kabak, The Mail reported.
The Eagles recently hired Patrick Vieira as their new manager and the focus appears to be on recruiting high quality young players.
They have already signed Michael Olise and Marc Guehi from Reading and Chelsea alongside goalkeeper Remi Mathews.
It is now reported that they contacted Vieira, who is reportedly an admirer of the 21-year-old center-back, on behalf of Kabak.
Kabak was on loan to Liverpool in the second half of last season but they refused to sign him on a permanent basis for £ 18m.
Schalke could accept a lower price of £ 12m this summer. It is reported that they could be persuaded to sell for an initial £ 8.5 million.
Leicester City were on the verge of signing the center-back recently but it appears they have not made a move so far.
Sports lens view:
Palace have added promising talent with Olise and Guehi and constructive efforts have been made to bring down the median age of the squad.
The club has already made headway with the sacking of several no-contract players in their thirties. There could be a lot of transfer activities in the coming weeks.
Kabak made a dismal debut for Liverpool earlier this year, but he made a good comeback and contributed to their strong end to the season.
Of his 13 appearances, nine came in the Premier League. With an average of two tackles and three clearances, he showed his potential.
He was also good in the air with an average of almost three air duels won. He could turn out to be an ideal defensive partner for Guehi next season.
Whether Palace can lure him to Selhurst Park this summer remains to be seen. The interest in the 12-man Turkish national player is said to be great.
