Aston Villa is aiming for a summer striker for Bayer Leverkusen’s winger Leon Bailey.
Leon Bailey, 23, has impressed Bayer Leverkusen since moving from KRC Genk to the Bundesliga Europa League in January 2017.
The Jamaican international, who has two years left on his current contract at Bay Arena, is currently valued at £ 25-30million. Aston Villa have identified Bailey as a realistic target and are preparing for Bayer Leverkusen with coach Dean Smith keen to recruit another winger.
The Villans have been busy in the summer transfer window as Dean Smith looks to upgrade his squad ahead of the 2021-22 season. They signed Emiliano Buendia in a recording deal from newly promoted Norwich City and brought Ashley Young back from Inter Milan on a free transfer while they continue to look for Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.
Aston Villa finished 11the last season just four points behind 10the– placed Everton on the table. To create a serious challenge for a first-half placement next season, Smith must make improving his defensive options a priority. After closing the loopholes in his defense, the villa tactician should focus on increasing his attack potential.
The future of Jack Grealish at Villa Park is in the air
It’s an open secret that Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish is wanted by Premier League champions Manchester City. Pep Guardiola admires the creative winger who has been Villa’s best player since the club moved up to the premier league two summers ago.
Grealish, 25, may feel the time has finally come to leave his youth club and join a Manchester City team that is set to battle for titles and trophies under Guardiola every season. However, Smith expects his captain to stay and sign a new contract in addition to a five-year deal he penned last summer that linked him to Villa Park until 2025.
As things stand, Grealish’s future at Villa remains uncertain and Smith must try to resolve it as quickly as possible. Even if the Villans have signed Emi Buendia as a possible replacement for Grealish, it would be a big win for Smith to keep the England international for another year.
Leon Bailey could be a top addition to Villa’s attack line
As previously mentioned, Smith remains on the lookout for another broad attacker, with Mahmoud Trezeguet set to miss the start of the new season with a serious knee injury and Anwar El Ghazi on sale.
Villa seems to be targeting Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen, who is currently playing for Jamaica in the Gold Cup.
Bailey is a right-winger by trade and plays both left and center when necessary. He’s an exciting player with silky dribbling and a great left foot that would add goals and assists to Smith’s Villa team. The Jamaican international would be an instant upgrade for El Ghazi while adding a creative flair to the entire Lions department.
Bailey is relatively young at 23, and that should make him a long-term option for Smith. All in all, the Villans’ commitment to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star would be a big coup as Smith wants to push for a place in the top half.
