Towards the end of 2020, we look back on some of the best moments of a memorable year on our official Twitter account.
Our most engaging tweet of all time was the result of random timing – Saints climbed to the top of the Premier League 24 hours after Donald Trump’s infamous post following Joe Biden’s presidential election victory. He might mean business, but we weren’t (well, not quite).
MUTING THE RESULT
Do you remember the October 2019 game against Leicester? If not, watch one of our games on TV and you will usually be reminded within about five minutes of kickoff! Well, before we played our next game against the Foxes in early January, we thought we’d have some fun with it ourselves.
Okay, we had fun with it in January, but when the anniversary got back on its feet in October we got tired of hearing about it (and we unlocked it as promised!).
TIC TAC TOE
With the nation banned in March and Premier League football stalling, we figured we might as well try to play a game with our scheduled opponent Norwich this weekend. Unfortunately, they didn’t seem that excited so we switched to a willing Man City instead …
And in the end we got a hard earned point!
LIKE IT INDEED STARTED
With Gareth Bale being on everyone’s lips when he returned to England in October, we thought we could make a helpful reminder for anyone who doesn’t know where his career began.
CAUTION JORDAN …
And you can continue to miss him!
We always enjoy some good-natured fun with the Liverpool fans. But seriously, you’ve had enough!
HOW DO YOU END DANNY INGS?
2020 was one of those years when Danny couldn’t seem to stop scoring goals. We tried to figure out how to do that, but even Google’s suggestions seemed limited (enter the coordinates if you haven’t already).
BALLON D’OR HEARTBREAK
Poor Danny. What a year for the cancellation!
OH WHAT FUN WATCHING SOUTHAMPTON WIN AGAIN!
The 2019/20 season was a spectacular season for Saints on the road, with a club record for away wins, and we tagged it with this special video when Ralph got the award Super Mario Treating, jumping (and stomping!) Its way to a new high score.
THAT’S SALISU … FINALLY!
What if fans react relentlessly to your tweets with “That’s not Salisu” memes in the off-season and then you finally sign him? Of course, use all of the memes in your announcement video.
IT’S DONE … IT SEEMS!
What to do if your manager announces an early signing? Panic!
THEO COMES HOME
14 years, eight months and 16 days after saying goodbye to Saints for Arsenal, Theo Walcott returned home in October and we celebrated the moment with this special video celebrating his loan from Everton.
Unfortunately, even our extreme measures to keep Ralph calm on this didn’t mean we could keep it under wraps …
HOW TO DO IT NOW
Summary of an incredible journey for Theo on the day he signed.
WE ARE GOOD THANK YOU …
We don’t think we need to add any additional context here.
