Newcastle United are looking to bring on Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in this transfer window.
Conor Gallagher, 21, spent last season on loan with Chelsea’s West Brom and was one of the few sparks in an otherwise hot campaign for the Baggies that ended with relegation from the English premier league. In his first Premier League season, he scored two goals and as many assists in 30 games for West Brom.
The England U21 international is now back at Chelsea and part of their pre-season training camp, but as the summer progresses, there may be no room for him in Thomas Tuchel’s already stacked midfield. However, it remains to be seen whether the Blues Gallagher will borrow for the third year in a row or agree on a permanent sale this summer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United did well in the second half of last season, earning them a respectable 12the– Placed degree. But in order to fight for positions higher in the table in the 2021/22 season, Steve Bruce still has many gaps to fill in this transfer window.
Joe Willock is about to return to Newcastle
Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle United and it’s fair to say he was a huge hit.
Scoring a goal on his debut in a 3-2 win over Southampton, 21-year-old Willock never looked back, ending the season with eight goals in 14 games. In fact, he scored a net in seven consecutive games of his last seven missions to offset Alan Shearer’s long-standing record and played a vital role in keeping the Toon Army preventing the decline.
Now the 21-year-old Englishman is believed to have his heart set on returning to Newcastle for another period of time. Arsenal are reluctant to permanently lose Willock and have therefore agreed to loan him out to Steve Bruce’s Magpies for a full season this time around.
The magpies need more quality and depth in the midfield
Willock, who is returning to Newcastle United for another period, would benefit Bruce’s side massively. The Arsenal loanee’s goals from midfield proved of great help when the strikers misfired for Bruce.
However, Newcastle will have to fix the huge holes in midfield before the start of next season. In addition to Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Matty Longstaff and possibly Willock, Bruce lacks quality in midfield. Obviously, the toon boss needs someone who can combine the game between midfield and attack while kicking in with goals.
Will Conor Gallagher be a good addition to the Toon Army?
Bringing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, either for a season or permanently, would help Newcastle bring the much-needed steel and creativity to their midfield.
Gallagher impressed on an average West Brom side, demonstrating that he has the talent and ability to play in the highly competitive atmosphere of the Premier League. The experience he has gained in the Premier League is invaluable which will surely help him in the near future.
As a box-to-box midfielder, the Englishman is also able to play offensively or even further up front as an anchorman. He is a talented, inventive and combative player who is never afraid to fulfill his defensive duties.
All in all, Newcastle could well pay off a deal for Gallagher.
