Pierluigi Gollini says he is excited about his “big chance” with Tottenham ahead of his official reveal, expected on Friday.
The 26-year-old Atalanta goalkeeper flew out on Thursday to loan out to Tottenham – with a € 15m purchase option – where he will be Hugo Lloris’ understudy.
Gollini has been Atalanta’s goalkeeper of choice for the past three seasons, with the small Bergamo club finishing third three times in a row.
The Italian previously spent some time in England at Manchester United and Aston Villa but was delighted with the opportunity Spurs offered him.
“I’m very happy. It was clearly difficult to leave a place that was like a second home and a second family,” said Gollini.
“I thank Bergamo because I felt loved here and what we did will remain in the history of the club, but this is a new experience.
“I am very happy and grateful to Tottenham for this great opportunity. Hugo Lloris is world champion so it is prestigious and an honor for me to play with him.
Gollini added that Tottenham was the “best offer” he had received and that it would have been difficult for any club except Atalanta to stay in Serie A.
