Jorginho reveals how he could beat Ronaldo & Messi to the Ballon d’Or

Chelsea star Jorginho has cited a key factor that could give him an advantage over Messi, Neymar and even Ronaldo at the Ballon d’Or.

Jorginho believes he could win the Ballon d’Or in 2021 if the votes are based on the trophies won for that year.

The 29-year-old accepts his only hope of beating Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the two dominant forces in football, based on the criteria used by voters to base their judgments in December.

Jorginho knows that talent alone won’t give him preference over the two superstars, but he appreciates he has had the better season overall.

“We all have dreams,” said the midfielder of Chelsea official website. “But I’ll be honest, it depends on the criteria on which the decision is based.

“When we talk about talent, I know I’m not the best in the world. But when it comes to titles, nobody has won more than me this season!

“How could I compare myself to Messi, Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo? You have very different characteristics than me. But, I repeat, it depends on the criteria. “

What Makes Jorginho a Ballon d’Or Candidate?

The former Napoli man played a key role in Chelsea’s Champions League success last season. Without a defeat in the FA Cup final against Leicester City, he would have won a double. Even so, Jorginho has once again increased his Ballon d’Or prospects by impressively helping Italy win Euro 2020.

“If he wins the European Championship he will be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or,” said former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri SportItalia about Jorginho before the Euro 2020 final.

“He’s a clever player and so not everyone understands him.

“He makes everything seem simple, it’s his size. When I went to Chelsea we managed to snatch it from Manchester City.

“At first it was difficult to understand him, the fans, the journalists, now I see that he is valued. He was also the captain of Chelsea.

The only player to beat Messi and Ronaldo at Ballon d’Or in the last 12 years is Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric in 2018.
