Leicester City has been linked with shock to Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson.
Jordan Henderson, 31, joined Liverpool about a decade ago from Sunderland and after having had a difficult start in life with the Merseysiders, he has made 10 seasons with the club in the Premier League era.
England international who won the Champions League and a first Premier League title for Liverpool in 30 years; faces an uncertain future in Anfield amid stalled contract talks. The 31-year-old has a contract until 2023, but talks about a new deal with the Reds have failed for the time being, so his future is in the air.
Along with Leicester City, Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Henderson, who was part of the English squad who lost the Euro 2020 final to Italy at Wembley earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Leicester City was one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the current transfer window. They signed Boubakary Soumare and Patson Daka from Lille and RB Salzburg respectively, while Ryan Bertrand arrived on a free transfer from Southampton.
Leicester have to challenge the big boys in the Premier League and secure a top four spot next season
In consecutive Premier League seasons, Leicester City has not finished in the top four under Brendan Rodgers. For another reason, by the end of the last two campaigns, the foxes came to a boil and missed Champions League football.
Brendan Rodgers can’t fail this time, bringing Champions League football back to King Power Stadium in 2022 after helping the Foxes win the FA Cup last season.
The foxes must try to hold on to James Maddison
Leicester playmaker James Maddison reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal ahead of a possible move.
Maddison, 24, was brilliant for Rodgers’ side in the first half of last season, but his form faded in 2021, largely due to fitness issues. The Englishman is an exciting player to be on the Gunners’ radar as Mikel Arteta tries to solve his team’s creativity problems ahead of the new campaign.
Arsenal’s interest in Maddison is real and they are ready to offer a player plus cash deal for him. So Rodgers and Co. to make a big decision. In fairness, they have to try to keep the 24-year-old midfielder who has a contract at King Power Stadium until 2024.
Jordan Henderson could add a lot of value to this Leicester City team
Rodgers has built an exciting team from Leicester City that play fascinating counter-football. With Kasper Schmeichel, Jamie Vardy and Jonny Evans, the Northern Irish have some top professionals, front runners who have had successes in the Premier League in the past.
In Jordan Henderson, the Foxes would get an aggressive leader and seasoned activist who was a crucial part of recent Champions League and Premier League triumphs from Liverpool. Settling in at Leicester shouldn’t be a problem as the England international would reunite with former Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers.
The 31-year-old’s work ethic and experience could help the Midlands club fill that void as they attempt to win the Premier League title again. He would undoubtedly improve Leicester’s midfield division, which could sell Dennis Praet, Hamza Choudhury and Nampalys Mendy this summer.
Liverpool are very unlikely to sell Henderson this summer, however, but it won’t be a bad idea for the Foxes to test the Merseyside club’s resolve with a saucy offer for their star skipper.
