Tottenham has accepted an offer of £ 13 million for Toby Alderweireld from Qatari club Al-Duhail, according to The Telegraph.
Earlier this month we released a report from The Athletic suggesting that Alderweireld had informed Spurs of his desire to leave the club this summer.
There should have been interest on the part of the player’s former club Ajax and his home club Royal Antwerp.
However, it seems that Alderweireld could leave Europe entirely.
The Telegraph claims a deal has been struck between Tottenham and Al-Duhail that will give Londoners £ 13 million for the transfer.
It is believed that Spurs actually rejected an approach from Royal Antwerp earlier this summer, leaving Alderweireld with no choice but to settle for another destination.
The 32-year-old still has a two-year contract, so a modest transfer of £ 13 million makes some sense.
However, some would say that a player who played 35 games last season – and is still arguably the club’s best center-back – shouldn’t leave.
However, Tottenham are likely to be very active in the transfer window in the coming weeks when it comes to defense, so Alderweireld will be replaced.
