Manchester United now expect a formal approach from Paris Saint-German to midfielder Paul Pogba amid growing uncertainty about the player’s future.
The 28-year-old may have enjoyed one of his best seasons to date in a Manchester United shirt last time out, but that appears to have done little to quell speculation about his future due to his ongoing contract situation.
The Frenchman, who returned to Old Trafford in 2016 on a £ 89m deal, has less than a year left on his current contract, leaving open the possibility that he could leave for free in 12 months or be relocated to this summer get a transfer fee back.
In recent weeks it has been reported that the Red Devils were ready to give the world champion a new deal to stave off potential interest from across Europe.
However, it was reported this week that he has turned down an offer of a £ 350,000-per-week extension with the telegraph He is reportedly “not ready” to sign with the club and Paris Saint-Germain are ready to rush to get him to the Parc des Princes.
The report suggests United are expecting a more formal approach from the Ligue 1 giants as they have lost confidence to tie Pogba to a new deal.
The player’s agent, Mino Raiola, is said to be already in talks about personal relationships with PSG.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side believe a £ 50m bid will be enough to entice the Red Devils into selling. The Premier League side are trying to avoid losing the player a second time on a free transfer after joining Juventus in 2012.
Turin – along with Barcelona and Real Madrid – were previously seen as the most likely targets, although PSG could apparently steal an advance with club finances decimated across Europe as the midfielder could potentially add to an already fearsome squad from Paris.
United are now looking to find a suitable replacement for the polarizing Frenchman, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also keen to recruit a new recruit in defensive midfield.
The club already have players like Donny Van de Beek, Fred and Scott McTominay as midfield options, although rumors have suggested that Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga is a player they are keeping an eye on while West Ham’s Declan Rice has also been the subject of speculation .
United have also been linked to Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid and Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich – the latter also has just one year left on his contract with Allianz.
Solskjaer’s side have already announced the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and appear in talks about signing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
