Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Atalanta’s Pierluigi Gollini, with the goalkeeper initially signing a full season loan deal with an option to buy.
Gollini has made 89 Serie A appearances for Atalanta in the past five seasons, having joined the Serie A club after a stint in English football at Aston Villa.
The 26-year-old had also spent some time at Manchester United earlier in his career, but it was at Hellas Verona where he made his first-team debut in the 2014-15 season.
After representing Italy in youth, he made his Azzurri debut when he came on as a late substitute in a Euro 2020 qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina in November 2019.
Gollini, who is now part of Nuno Espirito Santos’ squad at Spurs, is looking forward to working with Hugo Lloris – but also plans to prove that he is a long-term option to become the new number one.

“I am very happy about this opportunity. It’s a huge club and a great opportunity for me. I am blessed and proud to be here. I’m so happy to just be part of this club and join this team of great players, ”he told Spurs TV.
“I am young, but not too young. I’m here to show that I can be Tottenham’s future.
“Of course I’m here with Hugo. I have a lot of respect for him, he’s a legend in this club. He is a captain and world champion so it is a privilege and an honor to work and train with him. I am sure I can learn a lot from him.
“The squad is really very good. As a team, we should be ambitious. We should try to win something because this is a big club. The goal must be to win. “
Confirmation of Gollini’s arrival comes a day after Spurs announced that Son Heung-min has signed a new long-term contract.
Doubts about Harry Kane’s future remain, however. The English striker has been heavily linked with a move to top rivals Manchester City, with a £ 160m offer reportedly required to close a deal during the current transfer window.
