The arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo in north London brings some excitement for Tottenham Hotspur fans as the former Wolves boss has an impressive managerial resume.
Santo was named Spurs boss after the club was linked with a number of potential candidates and the Portuguese’s first job will be convincing Talisman Harry Kane to stay with the club.
Aside from worrying about his valued striker’s future, Santo will also be on the lookout for signings to add to his current squad and it appears he has identified a target.
According to the Argentine outlet TyC Sport, Spurs is poised to offer £ 34m plus an additional £ 8m of add-ons for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero.
The 23-year-old joined the club from Juventus on an initial two-year loan deal but has a £ 13m purchase option clause.
Atalanta is believed to value the player at £ 47m, so Spurs’ offer may not be enough to convince the Serie A side to part with the defender.
The report also suggests that Spurs have already signed a deal to loan Atalanta keeper Pierluigi Gollini.
Sky Sports in Italy also reports that Spurs has set personal terms with Romero, who would sign a five-year deal if the two clubs were able to strike a deal.
The defender was instrumental in Atalanta’s re-qualification for the Champions League and was named Serie A Defender of the Season for his efforts.
The Argentine also won the Copa America this summer.
Spurs are desperate to sign a center-back after an offer for Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu was turned down earlier this month.
