As expected, the Reds have appointed 24 players to their Premier League squad for 2021/22, seven of which make up the domestic quota.
Since the summer transfer window is now finally over, the clubs had to submit their squads for the 2021/22 season at the beginning of the month.
And there would be no late line-up for Liverpool as the only new signing Ibrahima Konate arrived in late May, just a week after the 2020-21 season ended.
A full line-up of 25 players required eight native names to be listed, but with the Reds only naming seven, they could only register a 24-man roster.
The domestic contingent includes Nat Phillips, who, despite an expected departure, stayed at Anfield Road after a breakout season, where he instead signed a new long-term contract.
Jürgen Klopp’s key figures in Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold also belong to the group of seven, as do Joe Gomez and James Milner.
However, there is a place in the squad for Loris Karius, with Harvey Elliott listed as one of the registered U21 players – in contrast to the Champions League squad.
Players like Curtis Jones, Kaide Gordon, Billy Koumetio, Marcelo Pitaluga, Neco Williams and Mateusz Musialowski are also listed as U21 players.
The Reds won’t be able to change the roster until January, of course, at a time when Jones, as a local player, could fill one of the 25 available spots as he turns 21 on January 30th.
