Crystal Palace firmly secured their first win under new coach Patrick Vieira, beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at Selhurst Park.
A red card to Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga just before the hour set the game evenly in favor of the Eagles, with the 22-year-old sacked while the game was still goalless.
Tottenham’s day got worse shortly afterwards when Palace received a penalty after a handball and Wilfried Zaha made no mistake.
Summer newcomer Odsonne Edouard stole the show in the end and got a successful double in the closing stages after he was in the 84.
However, it was Zaha who really was the star of the show throughout the show, and played a pivotal role in helping Vieira secure his first league win for Palace for the fourth time.
Was Zaha the best player for Palace?
Yes, in any case!
Under no circumstance!
According to SofaScore, the Ivory Coast international received a game rating of 8.3 out of 10, the highest of any player who started the game after scoring once and preparing Edouard’s first goal.
Zaha’s underlying numbers are arguably even more impressive, however. After engaging in a tussle with Spurs defender Emmerson Royal in the 90 minutes, Palace’s talisman won a whopping 11 duels, made three key passes and completed six successful dribbles.
The former Manchester United gem had struggled early in the season and failed to score in their first four games of the 2021-22 season, but made a strong return to form this afternoon.
Vieira hopes to see more of this from Zaha throughout the season and if the 28-year-old can regularly reproduce his performance as of today, Palace should have some exciting months ahead of them.
