Alan Shearer watched Ronaldo return to Manchester United.
Against his own team, the Newcastle United legend could only sit back and admire what was going on at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo puts Man Utd on the path to a 4-1 win with two goals, which is sure to be followed by many more for the 36-year-old.
Alan Shearer explains, ‘All I would say is watch this guy week after week.’
Premier League top scorer of all time on this Ronaldo return: “We all expected him to do well. We all expected him to score his goal or goals. And the performance he did was just phenomenal. ‘
At Newcastle United, Alan Shearer pointed out the underlying problem that exists as always at St James Park, while it was left to Ian Wright to detail what he believed was NUFC’s biggest problem on the pitch.
Alan Shearer, Ian Wright and Gary Lineker in conversation about Match of The Day:
Alan Shearer on Ronaldo’s second Man Utd debut:
“It was always like this, he would never disappoint.
“We all expected him to do well.
“We all expected him to score his goal or goals.
“And his performance was just phenomenal.
“I mean, for 36 years his energy, his attitude is an example to any young child who watches.
“All I would say is watch this guy week after week.
“Everything about him, whether it is his movement, whether it is his ability in the air, whether it is his touch. its control, everything, it’s top notch.
“Are there any positive things for Newcastle today?”
“Well, just the fact that you go there and probably don’t have the ball.
“You know, when you get the ball and get an opportunity, you have to kind of make the most of what they did sometimes.
“I even think about Joelinton once he gets into that position” [running into the box on left side] there is nobody up there with him [Joelinton ends up shooting weakly wide when getting into the box].
“At some point Newcastle will have to prevail at Manchester United because there were some chances where they should have done better.
“I know Steve Bruce will have thought, ‘We’re not going to have much on the ball, but if we do we have to make the most of it.’
“Look at Manquillo [on edge of own box when Newcastle get possession] here they have to do it because they are able to. Almiron does this fantastic, look at how many meters Manquillo is doing there, 90 meters to get there [and score].
“Now you’re looking at Joelinton [jogging past the halfway line].
“So you have half of the team working as hard as someone like Manquillo, then you have Joelinton, who is a striker and maybe just realized I should be here.” [penalty area – with Newcastle player on the break looking for somebody to pass to]. That’s the problem, that’s probably the problem they have. “
“I thought she was [Newcastle] worked out fine today. They cost stupid mistakes. “
“What do you think of your club at the moment, Alan?”
“I hate what my club is or has become.
“That was a long time ago.
“It’s a hollow and it’s an empty football club.
“There’s no hope or ambition and I’m pretty sick of it, to be honest.
“It’s copy – paste – repeat, every season.”
“What could it change?”
“Well, they give new contracts to players who were with the football club because they can’t sell them on.
“Then they have the excuse that they cannot bring other players into the football club because these players receive a salary.
“It’s cheaper to keep them in the books than to buy other players.
“And the fans deserve better.
“Every manager has the same problems.
“Like I said, it’s copy – paste – repeat, every season.”
