It was a frustrating afternoon for the Liverpool U23s when they suffered a 2-1 loss to Tottenham on Saturday, but Kaide Gordon’s latest goal caught the eye.

The young Reds were back in action this weekend after a two-week hiatus for internationals, with a trip to Stevenage to face Spurs.
Barry Lewtas made three changes from the 1-1 draw against Brighton before the deadline when Conor Bradley, James Norris and Sheyi Ojo were eliminated and Tony Gallacher, Dominic Corness and Mateusz Musialowski came on.
It took Liverpool just four minutes to take the lead and it was a move straight from the first-team playbook when Billy found Koumetio’s long, diagonal pass from center-back Gordon on the right wing.
The 16-year-old dropped his shoulder, cut inward, and shot past Joshua Oluwayemi with his left foot to avoid his marker’s attention.
It was Gordon’s second goal in three games for the Academy that season – along with an assist – and there was a striking resemblance to Salah’s signature efforts to intervene from the right.
Liverpool will be delighted with the youngster’s progress as he hits the six-month mark since moving from the derby in February and a long-term senior team role is on the horizon.
While expectations should remain low, it would be no surprise if Gordon is groomed as an eventual replacement for Salah – provided his development goes as planned – after Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott at the side of Jürgen Klopp.
Gordon’s goal was only consolation for the young Reds, however, as a brace from Alfie Devine on either side of half sealed Tottenham’s 2-1 win.
In the afternoon, Morgan Boyes returned, who was absent for the first month of the season amid speculation about his future as players like Musialowski, Corness and James Norris continued to advance at U23 level.
