Diego Simeone was pleased with the effect of his substitutions as Atletico Madrid scratched a dramatic late win Espanyol over the weekend after making three more changes at half time and two more changes in the second half.
Atletico wasn’t at their best in the first half and was on one Raul De Tomas Goal, goal Renan Lodi, Thomas Lemar and Geoffrey Kondogbia came off the bank and made a difference. Then, Joao Felix and Matheus Cunha arrived and did the same.
On Tuesday was the one who would have been most concerned about missing it, and he was considered outstanding once it came. He laid the team on their backs and carried them to victory, even scoring the winning goal in the 99th minute.
“We have a competitive squad with great players”, Simeone explained. “What decides if we’re a great team or not is seeing how the players do when they get in.”

Atletico Won in Catalonia by intransigence and a bit of luck, but the game has shown that they are a team with endless possibilities.
