Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has answered questions about Paul Pogba’s future and made suggestions that his long-term future could still be with Manchester United.
Pogba has been linked with leaving Manchester United for several years, with the Frenchman’s agent Mino Raiola saying his client’s career at Old Trafford was “over” less than 12 months ago.
However, according to reports on Monday, Manchester United’s summer dealings – the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho – led the midfielder to renew his contract at Old Trafford instead of looking for a free transfer next summer.
Asked about the reports ahead of United’s Champions League opener against Young Boys, Solskjaer insisted that the club would have to win trophies to meet player expectations.
“Yes, well, it’s up to us to get results and to prove to ourselves that we can win trophies,” he said at his pre-game press conference.
“Because I think anyone who signs with Man United wants to win trophies, wants to be part of a victorious Man United – that’s the most magical feeling in the world, to be part of a victorious Man United team.
“So, yeah, I think everyone just focuses on doing our best and let’s see where we go.”
United are unbeaten in their first four Premier League games and are currently at the top of the league due to goal difference. The Red Devils have scored eleven goals in the league so far.
Of those 11 goals, seven were supported by Paul Pogba, and while Solskjaer praised his number 6’s performance, he didn’t want to be swept away by the stats that the final pass shouldn’t always be a measure of who is credited with the assistance.

“Paul came back in good shape and worked really hard over the summer. He came back slim and fit, ”he said.
“But what does an assist include? A square pass to Bruno [Fernandes] and then does Bruno hit the top corner? Or when Paul plays a great pass-through and Mason does [Greenwood] runs over?
“So Paul was always a top passer, we know that. He is one of the best passers in European football.
“So he probably doesn’t have any assists from his best passes this season, so I’m not counting any assists at all. This is just a social media [thing], or you the media. But Paul played well, that’s for sure. “
Pogba was credited with assisting Jesse Lingard’s goal against Newcastle at the weekend, despite the Norwegian pointing out Anthony Martial’s dummy as an integral part of the goal.
“I would assist Anthony Martial for Jesse if he got off the ball, like Yorke and Cole.” [used to do]. There is so much more to it than just statistics.
“I think David [De Gea] deserves one [for his part in Bruno Fernandes’ goal]! ”
