The experienced football administrator Kofi Manu “Blue Boy” has described the dismissal of Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor as pointless.
The Ghana FA terminated the contract of Charles Kwabla Akonnor together with his two deputies on Monday after Ghana’s uninspiring performances against Ethiopia and South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualification.
The Ghana FA changed direction at its executive board meeting on Monday after the Black Stars’ review and performance in their last two games to appoint a new coach.
A three-person committee headed by the Vice President of the Ghana FA, Mark Addo, was tasked with appointing a new coach over the next 72 hours.
In an interview with Space FM from Sunyani, he said, “Without the FA Technical Director, how could the Exco set up a three-person committee to find a new coach for the national team?”
“This is absolutely useless and I have never seen or heard that before”
“The decision of GFA Exco to terminate Coach CK Akonnor’s contract is pointless and unfounded”
“The GFA president said on Joy FM that Exco would be involved in coach selection this time around, so why fire the coach alone when things get out of hand,” he said.
