Although Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table with 15 points from their first seven games, they have conceded more goals than Chelsea, Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.
While players like Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate and Nat Phillips have options as center-backs, it seems like the Merseysiders have a new defensive star in their sights.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool – along with its other Premier League clubs Everton and Arsenal – are reportedly planning a move for Olympiacos center-back Pape Abou Cisse.
The Senegalese defender signed French club AC Ajaccio’s January transfer window for the Greek club in January 2017. Since then, the 26-year-old, currently valued at £ 5.4million by Transfermarkt, has played 105 games for Olympiacos in all competitions, scoring an impressive 12 goals for the club.
In his team’s last Europa League game against Fenerbahce, in which the Greeks took a 3-0 win, Cisse scored three tackles, won five of his six duels and made a block and an equalizer, which ultimately resulted in a decent overall standings 7.1 / 10 according to SofaScore.
Will Liverpool have to sign another center-back?
Next Van Dijk?
Regarding a possible move to Liverpool, we think Cisse, who is 1.97m, which equates to 6ft5, could well be a good addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad to add extra defensive depth.
With current Liverpool center-backs Van Dijk and Matip both 30 years old, the Reds may be looking for a move for the Senegalese defender to replace one of their older center-back options.
In our view, Liverpool should try to sign Cisse either in the coming January transfer window or next summer to add an extra center-back who could then be a regular for the team alongside Konate, Gomez and Phillips Van Dijk and Matip eventually leave Anfield .
