An update has emerged on Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard regarding Newcastle’s interest in his service.
What is the talk?
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are considering signing the Manchester United attacking midfielder in the January transfer window.
The report claims that it remains to be seen whether or not Lingard would be interested in a move since he refused to loan out the Magpies to West Ham last season.
Should Newcastle sign Lingard?
PIF could find the new Kevin Nolan at St. James’ Park by signing a permanent deal for Lingard in the January transfer window. He is an accurate midfielder who could delight the fans with his performances on the pitch.
Nolan had a sensational time at Tyneside, scoring 30 goals in 91 games for the Magpies before scoring 22 Premier League goals from midfield in his first two seasons for the Hammers after leaving Newcastle.
Lingard could jump in now and enjoy a similar record after loaning his quality to West Ham from Manchester United last season. He has scored nine goals and four assists in 16 games for David Moyes’ side and has scored two goals in three games for the Red Devils in the Premier League this season.
At the beginning of the year, United icon Andy Cole praised Lingard’s work and praised the England international for his all-round game. He said:
“I think Jesse came back with that bite between her teeth. He has the goal, but it’s not just about the goal, it’s also about the speed at which he works.
“I think his pace of work can be contagious. He gets involved, gets into the right areas – and also gets a goal for himself.
The £ 19.8million striker would certainly be loved by Newcastle fans as he has the goals and assists to go along with the hard work. Fans, as Cole explained, will appreciate his pace of work on the pitch when harassing defenders and using the press to make a difference.
He has proven that he knows how to find the end of the net at Premier League level, much like Nolan did from a similar position at the club. Because of this, PIF needs to make sure they can get a deal across the line for Lingard – the new Nolan.
