Strike to Zimbabwe: Star defender Tendayi Darikwa retires from the squad for the game against Ghana in Harare

The Warriors of Zimbabwe have suffered a severe blow when defender Tendayi Darikwa resigns from their squad for the second leg against Ghana in 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Zimbabwe will host the Black Stars on Tuesday October 12, 2021 after suffering a 3-1 loss at Cape Coast Stadium last Saturday.

Ahead of the second leg in Harare, right-back Tendayi Darikwa has retired from the squad due to family emergencies requiring treatment in the UK.

His absence will be a blow to the Warriors who want to change things in their own backyard in the return leg.

Darikwa, the captain of England’s Wigan Athletic, who lost to the Black Stars, will not be available on Tuesday.

“He will not travel to Harare for Tuesday’s second leg at the National Sports Stadium and has been replaced by Nkana FC star Takudzwa Chimwemwe from Zambia.” This was confirmed by Zimbabwe’s team manager Wellington Mpadare.

“The other UK-based players, Marvelous Nakamba, Jordan Zemura and Brendan Galloway, have been cleared for travel to Harare as the UK government has removed Zimbabwe from the Covid-19“ Red List ”. He added.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwean national team is expected to arrive in their country with the Ethiopian airline later in the day.
