With the return of the Premier League and Europe’s top tier this weekend, we have a stacked schedule in hand. For those of you looking to put on a Saturday Acca, we’ve found a handful of helpful tips to look out for.
Saturday October 16
BST 15:00 Norwich City v Brighton
Starting with the guests on Saturday, while Brighton would have been disappointed to have entered the international break with just a single point against Arsenal, it was another eye-catching performance by the Seagulls. Graham Potter’s squad earned more than just maximum points against the Gunners last time around and have continued to receive a slew of praise since the 2021/22 season opened. With a blazing hot mood in their camp, the former Swansea boss found his squad back in action as sixth on the table. With many tipping them to enjoy a club season this time, Brighton has only lost one of the first seven Premier League competitions. After five unbeaten games in all formats, including a 2-0 win against the Swans last month in the EFL Cup, guests should see a golden opportunity on their journey this weekend. Brighton, on the flip side, may enjoy a real purple patch, but the same cannot be said of a sober Norwich side. Only in the past six weeks has the East Anglia team been scrutinized and suffered a Premier League nightmare. Despite a 0-0 draw against Burnley in the international break, that was the only point Daniel Farke’s men have scored so far this season. Already rooted at the bottom of the table, an away win for a high-flying Brighton appears here at attractive odds.
Tip: Brighton wins & less than five goals @ 13/10
15:00 reading against Barnsley
While Reading may have to grapple with some issues behind the scenes, the Royals are celebrating their return to the action and enjoying very formidable form. Knowing they could return to the play-off spots with a win that weekend, the hosts were last seen on Saturday October 2nd taking a deserved 1-0 away win at Cardiff. After a bumpy start to the 2021/22 season, Veljko Paunović’s team found a way to recover from this shock defeat in the derby towards the end of September. In fact, Reading has taken 12 points from their last five championship competitions in a run that saw them claim a hugely impressive 2-1 win at contender Fulham last month. It should also be noted that the Royals have picked up seven points from their last three matches in Berkshire, including consecutive home wins. At the helm of former England U21 star John Swift, who has already scored seven goals in the second division, a stricken Barnsley could face another tough test here. Whether Saturday’s guests might have shocked many en route to a play-off spot last season, the Reds have drastically failed to maintain that momentum. The Yorkshire team were last met with a 1-0 home defeat to Millwall and have lost their last championship games.
Tip: win on November 10th
15:00 Nottingham Forest vs. Blackpool
Starting with the hosts on Saturday, Nottingham Forest has found an instant boost despite the nightmare start of the 2021/22 campaign under new boss Steve Cooper. Regarding the former Swansea manager last month, the former European champion was last seen making a real mark. The Reds climbed the league table to last an impressive 3-0 win over Birmingham on the road and now have 10 points from their last four championship games. After that run was underscored by an impressive 3-1 win over Barnsley on September 29th, Cooper’s new team will now be desperate to improve their record at the City Ground. It is noteworthy that Forest has only collected one point on home soil since the start of the new season, besides a 1-1 draw against Millwall. On the other hand, Blackpool, who also goes into the international break with an enormously impressive performance, has continued to impress many in the championship. Although the Oranges did not return to the second division until the summer, they last won 2-1 at play-off hopefuls Blackburn. On their return to the top half of the table, Neil Critchley’s men have also collected 10 points from their last four championship games. It should be noted that on Saturday the visitors will see all five of their away games this season and both teams will hit the net. We support a similar result here.
