Marco Verratti was replaced shortly before the break at Marseille-PSG with a suspected hip injury.
The former Pescara man started the game in the middle of the Stade Velodrom park but was pushed off the pitch during the interruptions in the first half.
The Italian international suffered a blow to the hip in a fight with Arsenal loanee Mattéo Guendouzi and was treated by PSG medical staff.
But even after that he was unable to continue the game, so Idrissa Gueye was introduced.
The 28-year-old Verratti has played six games in all competitions with the Ligue 1 giants so far this season.
It remains to be seen how long he will be out of action with Italy, which will play their next games in November.
The Azzurri receive Switzerland on November 12th and visit Northern Ireland three days later for their last two World Cup qualifiers.
Verratti made his senior Azzurri debut in 2012 and has 48 caps and three goals behind him.
