With Europe’s top players returning from their international break this weekend, we have a stacked schedule in hand. For those of you looking to stick with a Saturday Acca, we’ve found a handful of helpful tips to look out for.
Saturday, November 20th
BST 15:00 Fulham v Barnsley
Starting with the hosts on Saturday, who last went into the international break with a 1-0 away win in Peterborough, there is no doubt that the mood in Fulham’s camp will be in full swing. Hailed by many as leading contenders for an immediate return to the Premier League this season, the Cottagers have really gained a foothold under new boss Marco Silva. The former Everton coach celebrates his return to the action this weekend with a commanding six-point buffer in the automatic seats and finds his team enjoying a stellar six-game run. Fulham have continued to shine at both ends of the pitch with that run, highlighted by a remarkable 7-0 game against Blackburn earlier this month. Along with now five clean hands on the spin, they also have an attacking talisman enjoying its own purple stain. Aleksandar Mitrović catches up with this famous winner and sends Serbia to next year’s World Cup finals in the middle of the week. In fact, the 27-year-old has already scored an astonishing 20 goals in the second division so far. On the flip side, while Barnsley may have managed to score a shock play-off spot season, they are in the midst of a real crisis. This time around, the Yorkshire team were stuck in the relegation zone, losing eight of their last nine games.
Tip: Fulham wins to zero @ 21/20
15:00 Portsmouth – AFC Wimbledon
Although Portsmouth may have opened the 2021/22 season in the middle of a deplorable run, the South Coast team have managed to find a much-needed boost. With the decision to stay with Danny Cowley, the former Premier League side has really started to catapult their way up the League One table. The Blues managed to find a way to the top half and with the aim of getting another attack on the play-offs this season, they also saw an impressive victory on the road recently. After a 1-0 away win at leading promotion candidate Wycombe last weekend, the former Lincoln boss should find the mood in his camp at a really high level. Pompey have extended their EFL Trophy adventure thanks to a 3-0 game against the Crystal Palace U21s and won each of their last three matchups in spin. It should also be noted that Cowley’s men are undefeated in any of their last six matches in any format, a run that dates back to mid-October. On the other hand, while the hosts may soar high on Saturday, the same cannot be said for a struggling AFC Wimbledon. The Dons were last met with a 1-0 loss to Sutton on the road and have lost four of their last five games, a run in which they have only scored a single goal.
Tip: Portsmouth wins & under four goals @ 7/5
15:00 Dover Athletic versus Halifax Town
While Halifax may have missed a play-off spot last season, this time around, they appear to be taking it a step further. Pete Wild’s men once again led the chase for the top 7, most recently claiming a stunning win earlier this month when they extended their FA Cup adventure. The Shaymen are storming their way to a remarkable 7-4 win over Maidenhead and will be desperate to build on that momentum. Knowing that the maximum score on Saturday afternoon could catapult them into the top three, the Yorkshire team are in tremendous form. In fact, Halifax has lost only one of its last 13 matches in all formats, including a formidable 1-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge on October 26, a run that dates back to early September. Smelling a golden chance in their travels this weekend, a battered Dover could face another tough test. Most recently, the Whites were hit in a 2-1 defeat at Torquay and only have a variety of problems on and off the pitch. The hosts on Saturday have already secured their relegation to England’s sixth division, but have not clinched a single win since the beginning of the 2021/22 season. With just one point from one of the last nine games, we can take an away win here.
Tip: Halifax Town to win & Halifax Town to score over 1.5 goals @ 1/1
