Chelsea and England full-back Ben Chilwell could be ruled out for the remainder of the season as the club is sweating based on the results of a scan for a possible anterior cruciate ligament damage in his knee.
Chilwell went into agony in the second half of the Blues 4-0 Champions League group game against Juventus on Tuesday evening after a harmless challenge from Adrien Rabiot.
The 25-year-old had to be assisted from the field by Chelsea medical staff and was clearly unable to put weight on his right leg.
The Telegraph now writes that Chilwell will undergo a scan on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury.
The England international is expected to undergo a second scan if Chelsea’s worst fears are confirmed, at which point the forecast could change.
After a difficult summer not appearing for England at Euro 2020 and a season opener where Marcos Alonso first made the left full-back his own, Chilwell has been mightily impressive in recent weeks, making significant contributions to both ends of the Playing field.
He is Chelsea’s third joint top scorer this season, with four of them, after scoring in three consecutive Premier League games in October.
About the injury after beating Juve, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel said: “I am concerned because he was in such a fantastic moment as Reece”. [James] on the other hand.
“You were in the best possible shape, so strong and so confident and with so much quality. Chilly has a sharp pain in her knee and he was in a lot of pain. Now he feels a little better” So we’re going to have an exam tomorrow to be more precise. We hope for the best, and it’s not too bad news. “
N’Golo Kante has also been ousted against the Bianconeri and he is now doubtful that he will face Manchester United on Sunday with his own knee problem.
