When Matt Beard called Leanne Kiernan into his office to tell her she would be making her first Women's Super League (WSL) start of the season against West Ham United, the Liverpool striker - by her own admission - "couldn't stop smiling".

And, against the Hammers this weekend, that is exactly what she did, firing home her first league goal in 694 days to open the scoring for Matt Beard's side and set them on the way to a precious three points. "It's just such a relief getting on the scoresheet and getting the win," Kiernan told reporters after the game.

"I've worked for the last five months to get back into the starting XI. It's been amazing, I've really enjoyed it. My family is up in the crowd there, so it was really nice to celebrate with them."
