Hunt & Rulani present a scary relegation fate for Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs are facing the prospect of being dragged into a relegation fight ahead of the business end of the season, given the big task of their next two DStv Premiership fixtures.

Amakhosi have looked low on morale in recent matches, after they went through the motions again in a 1-0 defeat to Richards Bay FC on Sunday, which was their fourth loss from their last five league games.

To make matters worse, Chiefs went four straight matches without scoring a goal, in one of their worst runs in PSL history.

There are question marks on where the inspiration will come from, as Amakhosi slipped down to 10th in the standings.

What is ominous for Cavin Johnson's charges is the daunting task that lies ahead in their next two fixtures, where they will host SuperSport United on Saturday evening at FNB Stadium, before welcome Mamelodi Sundowns at the same venue next Thursday.

Currently, only four points separates tenth-placed Chiefs and 14th-placed Moroka Swallows and should the Glamour Boys lose back-to-back games against the two Tshwane sides and the Birds get at least four points against TS Galaxy and Chippa United respectively, Amakhosi could find themselves in the fringes of the relegation zone, with four matches still to play after the next two fixtures.

Chiefs have already lost first-round games against both SuperSport and Sundowns and losing the reverse fixtures against the Tshwane sides would not be a surprise outcome, based on current form.

Although Matsatsantsa are going through their own slump, having former Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt on their dugout will add extra motivation for United to give their season a shot in the arm.
