Shelbourne FC has issued a lifetime ban following a disciplinary process to the fan who threw an object at the match official during last Friday's SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division clash against Drogheda United at Weavers Park.

The incident occured in injury time of the 2-2 draw and play was suspended for 15 minutes. 

In their statement Shelbourne stated "As a club, we uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards any behaviour that endangers the safety of players, officials, and fellow supporters."

Earlier this week, the league leaders were issued a ban on their supporters attending their away fixture against Galway United this Friday night at Eamonn Deacy park.

During the week, Shelbourne announced they will be selling 'virtual tickets' as a way of raising funds which will be given to Galway United as compensation for the abscence of their club's supporters.

Shelbourne's stated issued this evening confirmed the individual who threw the smoke bomb has been identified and banned for life from Tolka Park.

"In line with this commitment, and with increasingly severe sanctions for infractions being issued by the FAI’s Disciplinary Control Unit including away supporter bans, and the increasing likelihood of home stand closures at Tolka Park, full ground closures and possible points deductions if there are any further issues at our games.

"Effective immediately, Shelbourne FC will enforce lifetime bans for individuals found: Attempting to bring pyrotechnics into the ground , using pyrotechnics within Tolka Park or at away grounds, entering the pitch at any time or throwing any object onto the pitch.
