Jurgen Klopp has apologised to Liverpool supporters after his side put in another disappointing performance in their 2-0 defeat to Everton on Wednesday night.

Goals in each half from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin consigned Liverpool to a Merseyside derby defeat that is likely to be a devastating blow to their Premier League title chances.

Speaking after the game, a frustrated Klopp admitted the Reds were simply not good enough against the Blues, and with a trip to West Ham United next up on Saturday lunchtime, conceded they would struggle again if they did not improve immediately.

“No good thoughts at all. Very disappointed, frustrated obviously,” the Liverpool boss said. “Had now a few injuries.

“To sum up, it was not good enough. We played the game, or let it happen, what Everton wanted. They scored two goals from set-pieces.

“The first one we somehow defended three times but in the end we put it on a plate. Branthwaite scored it, didn’t even kick the ball properly, but the ball rolls over the line.

“After that we had our best period, I would say. We really put them under pressure. We created big chances, didn’t score.

“That obviously, going like that into half-time, each situation we missed gave Everton momentum even more. Took it away from us, we never had it, but didn’t help.

“Second half, as well not good enough. Without the real pressure phase we had at the end of the first half.

“Then you concede second goal. I think everybody who is with Everton saw that goal already 20 times. That’s their routine, everybody knows they put the ball
