Nicolas Jackson has to be 'braver' insists Ally McCoist

Ally McCoist criticised Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson for not being 'brave' enough in Tuesday's derby clash against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Jackson was given the task of being Chelsea's main source of goals - in the absence of Cole Palmer who missed the match with illness - and spurned a huge scoring opportunity.

The 22-year-old endured a difficult weekend of missed chances in Chelsea's weekend semi-final FA Cup defeat against Man City and his struggled continued versus Arsenal.

Jackson was presented with a chance to connect with a header from close-range in the first half but ended up wasting the opportunity as he lost track of the ball while in the air.

The Chelsea star appeared to close his eyes when trying to get a touch on the cross and saw the effort go begging as the ball struck him in his hand next to his face.

Scottish football legend, McCoist, was left dumbfounded by Jackson's erroneous attempt and told the former Villarreal striker to be 'braver'.

'Jackson puts his hands up for some reason. I have no idea,' said McCoist on TNT Sports.

'You have got to be braver. I can tell you right now, you have got to be braver.

'An old-fashioned centre-forward heads that,' added McCoist as Arsenal further took control of the match.

Arsenal took advantage of Chelsea's struggles in front of goal as Leandro Trossard opened the scoring in the first half with a well-taken finish.

Goals from former Chelsea playmaker Kai Havertz and Ben White saw Arsenal further exert control on proceedings.
