Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke take to social media after Chelsea penalty spat with Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer rightly grabbed the headlines after his incredible four-goal haul in Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Everton on Monday.

He netted the perfect hat-trick inside 29 minutes having scored goals with his left foot, head and right foot as the hosts went into the break 4-0 up following a classy Nicolas Jackson finish. Perhaps it is Palmer’s fourth goal that has got tongues wagging the most, though.

Noni Madueke won his second penalty in three Premier League games just after the hour mark and Palmer stepped up. With the team holding an unassailable lead, Madueke tried to take the ball off Palmer before Jackson came thundering in to add to the pushing.

Palmer tucked the penalty away but Mauricio Pochettino laid out his disappointment after full-time, a few minutes after Alfie Gilchrist netted his maiden goal for the club on 90 minutes. He held a debrief in the dressing room about the incident before speaking to the media, saying: “All that happened after is a shame. I am so, so upset about this situation.”

Palmer nevertheless described the night as “perfect” on social media with Jackson — now on 13 goals for the season — reposting his goal to Instagram.

Madueke perhaps sent a subtle message about what happened amidst the penalty incident. He simply published a blue loveheart post with a photo of the team in a huddle, with arms around one another. It was the first time he had started consecutive league games all season.
