Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar spoke of his recent success in Major League Soccer after a disappointing debut season in 2020, saying it was difficult to adjust to “a new country and a new league”.
Mukhtar signed the league’s newest expansion team as the first designated player in August 2019, making a move from Brondby ahead of Nashville’s debut season.
While showing off brilliant moments on occasion, the midfielder found it difficult to reconcile a new country and a new league amid the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was a new country for me, a new league,” said Mukhtar, “I didn’t know anyone. The first year was good, but now it’s a really good season. I like the boys and we have great players.
Head coach Gary Smith stayed with the player despite initially disappointing numbers and bet on his potential as soon as he settled in.
“There were a number of different reasons why we didn’t see the person we were expecting [in 2020]even though there were flashes of it and he was still a big part of the group, “said head coach Gary Smith.
“What we have seen this year is someone who is much more confident, relaxed, relaxed and comfortable around them. Not just the city they are in, but also the team they are with and the Fluidity (he and his teammates). “
Now it seems that Mukhtar was pretty comfortable with the American league and started creating MVP buzz. The midfielder has scored 10 goals and 9 assists in 22 games, making him a regular in the starting line-up.
“When I get goals and assists, it’s always good,” said Mukhtar. “The new position has helped me because I’m closer to the opposing goal. It makes me more dangerous. For me it is very important that the team is successful, not the individual. I just want to show everyone that I’m fine. There is still time in the season. I have to work harder and get better. “
Nashville currently ranks second behind the New England Revolution with 41 points in 23 games and a record of 10-11-2. With 12 regular season games remaining, Nashville nearly secured its spot in the 2021 MLS playoffs.
