Owen Hargreaves has claimed that Everton’s midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure reminded him of Paul Pogba after his performance against Burnley.
The Frenchman put in a strong performance against the Clarets on Monday, notch two assists. He had also not recognized a goal because of offside. However, this wasn’t his first impressive appearance of the season.
Doucoure has one goal and three assists this season. In fact, he scored a goal in Everton’s opener against Southampton before pitching Andre Gray against Leeds.
His solid start to the campaign comes after an influential debut season following his move from Watford in September 2020.
So Hargreaves insisted the 28-year-old play like his compatriot and midfielder Pogba from Manchester United.
“He has so much potential. Obviously he’s very good defensively, but I think box-to-box he’s very good, ”said the expert Premier League productions.
“I don’t want to cause any controversy here, but it’s a bit Pogba-Lite.
“He’s so gifted and so talented, he can do so many different things. He’s used to playing defensively, but at Watford he sometimes played as a tenth.
“He can still pass today, he can link it, he scored a goal that was not recognized. I think he’s something really unique and different on this side. If he plays like that, he’s unplayable. “
Doucoure scored two goals and three assists last season while appearing in 29 Premier League games.
But he’s not the only formidable achiever for Everton this season.
He assisted Andros Townsend and Gray with their goals against Burnley, the two continuing their strong start to life at the club.
Gray has now scored three goals in four Premier League games while Townsend has scored two goals in all competitions.
