The greatest potential of the Champions League 2021/22

The most prestigious tournament in European football returned to our TV screens this week as 32 of the most elite teams began the battle for the famous ancient trophy. The reality, however, is that less than 20% of those 32 teams have a chance of winning the Historic Cup, but that doesn’t mean we won’t experience shocking moments. Nobody expected Chelsea to be victorious in last season’s competition, especially with manager Thomas Tuchel joining the club mid-season. And favorite PSG, who ironically fired Tuchel, collapsed in the semifinals despite being the tournament’s favorite to win.

Champions League trophy

The most famous clubs in Europe have spent a ton of money building their teams ahead of this year’s tournament, so join us in previewing the potential winners, top scorers, top players and the teams with the greatest potential for disappointment.

Potential winners:

Chelsea – Last season’s Champions League winners look strong to defend their crown this season and of course the history of UCL won by the same team in consecutive years is extremely rare. Real Madrid are the only club in modern football to have achieved this feat, winning the trophy for three years in a row from 2015 to 2018.

However, we believe that Thomas Tuchel’s team has what it takes to face all odds and repeat a similar success as the Spanish giants. That Tuchel had achieved what he had achieved during half a season was unbelievable at the time; With an entire season under his wing, don’t be surprised if Chelsea can go a long way again.

Bayern Munich – If you have Robert Lewandowski, one of the most talented players in the world, behind a squad of players who have played together for years, Munich’s experience and elite know-how have the potential to recapture the cup they won in 2019/20 .

This year’s roster isn’t all that different from the team that sent PSG to the 19/20 finals, and with most critics hyping PSG and Manchester City on winning the UCL this season, Bayern Munich are flying under the radar the hopes of French and English fans alike.

Any Premier League site – The English Premier League is without a doubt the most stacked league in European football. The endless talent between Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.

England took over last season’s final as both Manchester City and Chelsea took their positions in the final. It was proof of how strong the Premier League clubs can be. You shouldn’t be shocked if most of the EPL sites make it to the round of 16.

Potential top scorers:

Ronaldo – Good ol ” CR7 returning to the place where its superstar (Manchester United) was born this season has come as a shock to everyone but his reign as a goalscorer won’t be. He scored two goals on his return to the EPL last weekend and scored again in Manchester United’s first Champions League game against Young Boys. Unfortunately, United slipped a red card in the final minutes. It’s too early to count the Red Devils, however, especially given the scoring ability of Ronaldo, who leads the team.

Lukaku – Last season’s runner-up top scorer in Serie A was instrumental in Inter Milan’s title win at home.

Of course, Romelu Lukaku was there to punish the goalkeeper on Chelsea’s first UCL game day, the 1-0 win over Zenit.

Should Chelsea reach the round of 16, expect Lukaku to deliver most of their goals.

Lewandowski – The top Polish striker has scored more goals in his professional career than almost anyone else in this tournament. Considering him the top scorer is a breeze.

Players with the best potential:

Virgil van Dijk Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk – Mr Van Dijk was absent from Liverpool’s defense last season and Jurgen Klopp knows his star defender will benefit his squad significantly this season. Salah, Mane, Jota and Co can steal the limelight, but none of their accomplishments mean anything if the Reds can’t defend. With Van Dijk’s return, the 2019 UCL final could be emulated.

Disappointment potential:

PSG – PSG and their all-star storm troop of Messi, Mbappe and Neymar are getting way too much attention. Do we expect one of these top scorers to support midfield or defense?

Mbappe wanted to go; can we trust him? Messi has barely played 30 minutes since joining Paris and Neymar has left Barcelona to be pursued by the man who once overshadowed him. There’s no denying that PSG have the talent, but working as a closed team wins trophies and doesn’t throw money at the best players in the world.

Inter Milan – Sorry Italian fans, but your Inter Milan suffered a brawl over the summer – losing some of their key squad members, including the coach who got you to qualify for the Champions League.

I hate to say that but Inter could have a hard time topping the group stage without their Scudetto winning coach and top scorers last season.
