Brighton manager Graham Potter has announced that striker Danny Welbeck will have to undergo surgery following a “devastating injury setback”.
Welbeck suffered an Achilles tendon injury in Albion’s penultimate game against Manchester City. The England international missed the Albion preseason and opening games nursing the injury and now Potter says the operation was the best solution for the striker.
“It’s ongoing and in the end, surgery seemed like the best solution for him,” he said.
“Of course it’s devastating for Danny and for us, but he’s had an operation, everything is fine and he’ll be back stronger than ever, I think. It’ll just take a little while for that to happen.”
Meanwhile, Enock Mwepu, Adam Webster and Yves Bissouma are back in training and all three have a chance to be eligible this weekend.
Danny Welbeck had an operation on his hamstring that will keep him out for a while. Alzate (ankle) also fails in the long term. “Everyone came back safely [from the internationals]. We’ve had time to relax and are looking forward to the game, ”Potter said. #BHAFC
