Oko-Flex on Moyes’ radar in West Ham

West Ham Academy starlet Armstrong Oko-Flex is “on the radar” by David Moyes, according to ExWHUemployee in this week’s edition of The West Ham Way podcast.

The 19-year-old signed a free transfer for the Irons after his contract with SPFL giant Celtic in the summer and it seems like he’s already catching the Scot’s eye.

“Oko-Flex looked really good, maybe once on the bench this season. He’s certainly one who’s on the radar. Maybe not this year, maybe next year, ”revealed the Hammers insider.

In fact, the versatile striker, who can play front and on both sides, has been in top form for the U23 this season. In 13 games in the Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy, he hit the net seven times via Transfermarkt.

When the teenager arrived at the London stadium claiming that Ronaldinho and Jay-Jay Okocha were a huge inspiration to him growing up, he told the club’s official website:

“I grew up with the admiration of some players. Ronaldinho because he was simply gifted; The Brazilian Ronaldo, who had it all for a number 9; and Jay-Jay Okocha, because my parents are originally from Nigeria and he’s someone I grew up with on YouTube – he’s done some crazy things in the past.

“I also like to entertain, but it’s also about doing it in the right amount. Goals win games and I’m an attacker, so goals and assists are very important to me.

Elsewhere, former U23 head coach Dmitri Halajko raved about his scoring skills after playing against non-league club Aldershot Town in the pre-season.

“When he came to the trial training session from Celtic, that was the first thing that we really noticed during training, namely his finish.

“He’s very clinical with really good technique and he showed that again tonight. He only had a few really clear chances and he definitely made them count.

The fact that he is being considered by Moyes is certainly encouraging, he could very well become a future star, following in the footsteps of Declan Rice and Ben Johnson.

Moyes’ first-team stars have already led the club into the next round of the Europa League and with the FA Cup in January there should be plenty of opportunity to see what the promising teenage gem has to offer.

If someone becomes the “next rice” at West Ham, then Oko-Flex has every chance as it catches the eye.
