The Chelsea legend admits he prefers Ronaldo over Messi after hearing the reasons from Garry Neville.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi told recent football history through their unique rivalry. The two have broken almost every record in world football while battling head-to-head for team and individual trophies.
The debate has formed two different camps. Ronaldo’s incredible goal stats and professionalism have made him popular with many, while other Messi’s prefer unearthly technical prowess.
Chelsea legend Franck Lampard had previously stated that he preferred Messi to Ronaldo. However, in a recent interview with Garry Neville, he admitted to having changed his mind on the debate.
“You know what, I’ve always been a Messi man… and then I recently saw your debate with Carra (Jamie Carragher)He continued overlap.
“I actually think what Ronaldo’s performance and actual numbers and goals in big finals and semifinals like we have seen. I think I might give him the advantage now.
“This is going to cause a lot of hatred now.”
Both Ronaldo and Messi moved to new clubs in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese star returned to Old Trafford while Messi joined PSG after 21 years in Barcelona.
Despite Man United’s troubles under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ronaldo has managed to maintain his top form this season. The 36-year-old has saved Man United several times with his important goals and fulfilled them at the same time his role as a leader.
Unlike Ronaldo, Messi still has to find his rhythm at his new club. He was struggling to make an impact at PSG as a number of injury setbacks prevented him from reaching his top form. However, moments of brilliance have already shown what Messi can achieve with PSG’s high profile attacking unit.
Garry Neville and Jamie Carragher argued over the Ronaldo Messi competition last month.
“So when you think about who is the greatest player of all time, I think he’s the greatest footballer who ever lived.” said Neville on Sky Sports.
“He’s the player who could win a soccer game for me in a variety of ways. He’s the most complete player. “
He added: “There is no doubt that Messi has scored an obscene amount of goals, he’s a ridiculous player.
“But Ronaldo, the three big differences are the header goals, that Ronaldo scored four or five times more, the wrong goals, that Ronaldo scored 30 or 40 percent more and he scored more penalties.
“It just got me to the point where he’s more complete.”
Carragher replied by saying: “Two wonderful players. In terms of all attributes, Ronaldo is a more complete player. He can do things Messi can’t in relation to his weaker foot and in the air.
“But Messi can take you to a place where you can’t believe what you are seeing. What Ronaldo does is what other players can do, Messi can do things that you’ve never seen before.
