Portugal legend Luis Figo has insisted he can’t understand the criticism of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United this season.
The 36-year-old made an impressive impact in front of goal after joining Juventus in the summer. While scoring four goals in nine Premier League games, he had the greatest impact in the Champions League.
Such was his career in Europe, he led United to important victories with decisive goals.
He scored winners against Villarreal and Atalanta at Old Trafford. He also earned his side a draw with the Italian side before breaking the impasse in Spain against Villarreal on Tuesday.
All was not smoothly for Man Utd, however. Ronaldo was criticized by the likes of Gary Neville for his lack of work off the ball.
But Ronaldo’s compatriot Figo cannot understand any criticism of the player this season.
“[It] makes no sense. He’s the best, ”said the 49-year-old In Bola.
“Football lives on results and the team does not achieve the expected results.
“But in terms of performance, he’s one of the best on the team, so I don’t understand this criticism.”
Figo added that Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Lionel Messi will have a strong hunt for the 2021 Ballon d’Or, claiming they have enough together to win the award.

Ronaldo’s signing was also criticized by Neville, who claimed former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s every plan for his team was put aside with the forward’s arrival.
But now Solskjaer has been sacked and Ronaldo and United are starting another new chapter for the club.
Lingard plans to leave Man Utd
Solskjaer’s last season, when he was in charge of United this season, resulted in many players being swept away by the bad press surrounding the team.
Jesse Lingard is a player whose playing time has not gone well this season.
His lack of game action has proven to be difficult to bear after West Ham’s impressive loan deal last season.
Although Solskjaer is leaving and a new manager is added, Lingard supposedly still wants out.
