'We're not obsessed about the No 1 spot' - Badela

Mamelodi Sundowns reserves coach Themba Badela insists his side still have a lot to improve despite their impressive run which has placed them as hot favourites for the DStv Diski Challenge title.

Sundowns are currently leading the standings with 53 points after 23 matches. They are ahead of second-placed Stellenbosch FC and eight points ahead of Pirates, who are third in the log.

But, Badela says the 2017 Diski Challenge champions - who face Stellenbosch in a blockbuster on Sunday at Idas Valley - should not become complacent following such bright performances.

“We should not allow being at the top of the log to blind us. We just need to keep improving game by game,” Badela said.

“We are not obsessed about the No 1 spot or anything about that. We are just obsessed about improving every week. You see, in this game (against SuperSport United) there are many things that I was not happy about, that need improvement.”

NO SPECIAL TREATMENT

On facing Stellenbosch, Badela said there will be no special treatment for this game. They are going to treat it the same way as they treat other matches in the Diski Challenge and predict that it will be a tough encounter.

He explained: “All the games are tough. If I tell you, Richards Bay, away, AmaZulu away and Polokwane City were very tough. I do not expect anything less from Stellenbosch. Everyone wants to beat Mamelodi Sundowns, the players are aware of that, and we just need to make sure that we match the fight and intensity that they bring to us.”

The clash between these two sides could give an insight into who is most likely to win the coveted Diski Challenge title in May.
