PSG formalises desire to build a new stadium

According to Le Parisien , Paris Saint-Germain have formalised their desire to build a new stadium, in a move that will look to put an end to their dispute with the Paris City Council over the future of the Parc des Princes .

On the 11th of March, a letter was sent to Île-de-France’s planning permission (SDRIF-E) from the secretary general of PSG, Jean-Pierre Chaulet, confirming that the club wished to explore all avenues aimed at the construction of a new stadium within a 20km radius of the city.

In the letter, Melero specifies that as “ the future of PSG at the Parc des Princes is not yet assured ,” he asks for the SDRIF-E to protect a 50-hectare area for the construction of a new stadium, with the letter pointing towards a variety of different sites that it could be interested in.

The final adoption of this plan is expected to take place this summer, before being submitted for approval to the Council of State. Various municipalities in the Île-de-France region have expressed their interest in becoming the new home of PSG. However, as Le Parisien notes, no favourite has yet emerged.

Montigny-le-Bretonneux (Yvelines) is already close to the current training centre for the club, but as an official speaking to the paper expressed, “ It’s a great project but the road is long. There are many distant stadiums like Wembley or Sydney, but here we are talking about a club’s home .”

Another choice could be the Gonesse (Val-d’Oise) site which is supported by the president of Roissy-Pays-de-France, “ We would welcome PSG with pleasure, for what this stadium would represent as a dream, as an image for our young people from the suburbs, especially from the outer suburbs who sometimes have the impression of being forgotten.
