Toni Kroos reveals hot dog La Liga celebration at Real Madrid - 'It was twice as good Barcelona losing it'

Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has revealed how the celebrations at the Santiago Bernabeu went down last weekend, as they were confirmed champions of La Liga. The German midfielder revealed that there was an extra sweetness that it came as a result of a Barcelona loss.

Los Blancos put Cadiz to the sword in a 3-0 win, accompanied by a party atmosphere at the Santiago Bernabeu. Half an hour later, Barcelona kicked off at Montilivi against Girona, and as the game went on, Real Madrid’s players broke out the… hot dogs.

“We won our game and, when Barcelona went 2-1 up, I was going to go home, but everyone told me to stay. 5 minutes later they lost 4-2. We were all eating hot dogs. Not leaving was a great decision,” he remarked on his podcast Einfach mal Luppen, as carried by Marca.

“It was all quite crazy because Girona could have also gone 7-2 ahead. We celebrated a little, but not too much.”

Kroos felt that the lack of tension in the title race due to the gap between the two took away something from it emotionally, but enjoyed Barcelona losing the title too.

“It is once again the feeling of having achieved something great. However, the season was so clear that it took away some of the excitement at the end. It is clear that, if I had been able to draw the scene, I would have preferred not to experience it in front of a TV. But it doesn’t matter, combining it with a Barca defeat was doubly good.”

The 34-year-old midfielder is yet to reveal whether he will extend his deal at Real Madrid, or retire after the Euros with Germany. Kroos returned to an empty Santiago Bernabeu pitch after the Bayern Munich victory, which has caused some doubt about whether he was drinking it in for the last time on a big Champions League night.
