Depression forces Bellamy to resign as assistant manager at Anderlecht

Bellamy resigns as assistant manager at Anderlecht to fight depression

To cope with his depression, Craig Bellamy resigned from his position as Assistant Manager at Anderlecht

The former Wales, Liverpool and Manchester City striker announced last year that he had been diagnosed with the illness which also affected him during his playing time.

Bellamy was appointed Vincent Kompany’s assistant at the Belgian club two years ago. The club posted a statement on their website last night revealing that Bellamy’s depression has resurfaced.

Anderlecht said he made “a very difficult but very necessary decision regarding his health. Bellamy said goodbye to the players in the locker room on Sunday afternoon after the 7-2 win against KV Mechelen.

Sporting Director Peter Verbeke added, “The tremendous energy Craig has given us all is priceless.

“So it makes sense that we have to give him all the time and calm he needs. The whole club is firmly behind him in these difficult times. ‘
