Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski has admitted that he would be very proud to win the Ballon d’Or in 2021 after two stellar years of relentless goals.
The 33-year-old has been operating at the highest level for well over a decade and has torn apart the defense of the Bundesliga and Champions League week after week, year after year for FC Bayern and previously Borussia Dortmund.
Lewandowski raised his game to a whole new level in the 2020/21 season and, to be honest, scored a ridiculous 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga games, breaking Gerd Müller’s long-standing record for the most goals in a single German Bundesliga season.
21/22 followed a similar pattern with Lewandowski; He currently scores one goal per game in the Bundesliga and comes from just 10 appearances to 13 in all competitions.
Many predicted the Pole would win the Ballon d’Or in 2020, only for France Football to announce that there would be no ceremony due to the exceptional circumstances and “lack of adequately fair conditions” due to the Covid-19 pandemic .
Lewandowski is one of the favorites again this year and he admits it would mean a lot to him to win the award.
“The opportunity to win the Ballon d’Or means a lot to me, it makes me proud. Considering what I achieved not only this year but also last year, that the ceremony was canceled, I have a lot of titles won. ” “I scored a lot of goals,” said Lewandowski, quoted by Marca.
“It would mean a lot to me to win the Champions League, the Supercup, the Club World Championship, I broke Gerd Müller’s record of 41 Bundesliga goals, it was something impressive, it makes me very proud and happy.

“Everyone saw what I did and what I continue to do. My achievements can answer that question because the last two years have been a great achievement not only for me but for every footballer in history.
When asked if Lewandowski owed the award for fate, he replied: “I don’t know exactly because it doesn’t matter where I’m from, because I have the chance to win the Ballon d’Or.
“I showed that it doesn’t matter where you come from, no matter how hard you work to be there, I have shown that despite a difficult career start, you can be very successful and be at the top.
Lewandowski also spoke briefly about his future at FC Bayern, which has been speculated about in recent months, and discussed the possibility of working with Erling Haaland in Bavaria.
“I don’t really think about it [where he’ll play next season], We’re just starting the season, we’ve only been here two months, I have a two-year contract.
“We [Lewandowski and Haaland] are different players, he is a great young player, with a great future, he likes to play counterattacks, he has a very strong left foot with a lot of power. I’m a different type of striker. Playing together? I’m not the one who says we couldn’t play together. “
