Former Lokomotiv Moscow president Nikolai Naumov has accused Manchester United’s new interim coach Ralf Rangnick of caring more about money than football.
Rangnick is expected to be announced as United boss by the end of the season, ending Michael Carricks as supervisor for a short time.
After managing first team matters until the summer, the German will switch to an advisory role for a further two years.
Rangnick has been hailed as an inspired appointment by many, though not everyone is a fan. The former Lokomotiv President Naumow, for example, has accused the former Schalke boss of having followed the money.
“It’s not about Manchester. For Rangnick, this is not an escape, a betrayal, or a shame. Rangnick is a businessman, ”he told Match TV.
“He absolutely doesn’t care about football because he’s just doing business around him. And the more countries, leagues and football clubs he covers, the more he earns. Lokomotiv is absolutely indifferent to him. He didn’t come here to promote football, but to make money.
“Now he’s been offered money elsewhere and he and his company will go to United. If he is offered a job in Africa, he will make money there and leave his deputy at Manchester United. Clean business. “
Although Rangnick is in charge for a short time, 90min understands that the club are still looking to appoint Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the season, having previously been interested in Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers.
Pochettino is not happy despite the strong start to the domestic season at Paris Saint-Germain and is said to be open to a return to the Premier League.
The Argentine has done little in recent press conferences to quell speculation about his future and has refused to rule out the possibility of his leaving the club.
