Brentford coach Thomas Frank has described his compatriot Andreas Christensen, whom he coached the Danish youth teams, as “one of the best defenders in the world”.
The 25-year-old Christensen has played 135 games for Chelsea, although he does not yet have a steady starting position at Stamford Bridge. 27 Premier League appearances in the 2017/18 season were his best return to date for the West Londoners.
This season, the 52-man Danish international has played the full 90 minutes under Thomas Tuchel in all but two of Chelsea’s Premier League games (Aston Villa and Southampton), as the European champions are currently leaders.

The 25-year-old also played in the Supercup win against Villarreal and started in both Champions League games against Zenit Saint Petersburg and Juventus. He’s hoping to play his 80th Premier League game against a former manager this weekend when Chelsea take on Brentford.
Frank has done wonders for the Bees this season, he has already conquered the scalps of Arsenal, West Ham and Wolves and secured a point in a 3-3 spectacle against Liverpool, but this weekend’s test against the European champions is likely its toughest challenge yet.
His job will be to break the defenses of Christensen and Co., but judging by his comments on his former student for the Danish U16 and U17, this is easier said than done as the Brentford boss gave the Danes “almost that complete package “praises” As a player.
“At the moment he is one of the best defenders in the world,” Frank told the Danish outlet bold.

“He has always been extremely intelligent on the pitch, which means he can anticipate all situations offensively and defensively very quickly.
“He’s very technically strong for a defender when it comes to getting the ball forward, passing and making good decisions.
“It is also forward-looking and fast at the same time, so almost the complete package.”
Christensen is a modern center-back in every way, his skillful and precise distribution make him an excellent defensive stepping stone for Tuchel’s system. So far this season only Aymeric Laporte (96.18%), Ruben Dias (93.25%) and Lewis Dunk (90.76%) have recorded a better pass accuracy than him (90.68%) among the central defenders. That confidence on the ball will be crucial this weekend against a Brentford front line conditioned to put pressure on the opposing defense.
