Last week that Liga MX Femenil The Liguilla playoffs were determined with the eight best teams securing the spots. That week the order took a turn, Santos Laguna dropped to sixth place and Club America moved up one place. We summarize what happened in the last regular week of the Apertura season in Mexico.
society America 4, Club Leon 1
Club America jumped to fifth after beating Club León and losing to Santos Laguna. America dominated León, bottom of the table. Sarah Luebbert, on loan from the Chicago Red Stars, scored in the first minute when she picked up the ball in the penalty area when León couldn’t clear and shot past goalkeeper Diana Sanchez.

Daniela Espinosa scored two goals in the first half – that is, in the early first half – and one in the second half for a hat trick. Her sixth-minute goal actually went over the line as Leon defender Victoria Swift was on the goal line but lacked the timing to clear the ball. Three minutes later, Espinosa hit the net again and scored with a penalty.
In the second half, her hat-trick was completed with a right-footed shot from Sanchez’s fingertips into the net. Espinosa was surrounded by two Leon defenders but still managed to shoot them cleanly.
Club León came on the board in the 27th minute thanks to a goal run by Marta Cox and controlled the ball as it bobbed up and down.
Santos Laguna 0, Tiger 2
Santos Laguna didn’t have a cheap matchup last week and faced the reigning champions and first place Tigres. Santos are now entering the playoffs lagging behind and also have a three-game losing streak.
Tigres scored both goals in the second half. Lizbeth Ovalle was the first to step onto the board in the 52nd minute after a free kick bounced around the box and eventually fell to her. Captain Sandra Mayor scored the second and final goal after an Ovalle Mayor cross found the penalty area.
Tigres took first place, but Monterrey was hot on their heels the entire time.
