Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills says he is “surprised” that Ben White has chosen to join Arsenal rather than a club like Manchester United.
The Gunners recently struck a £ 50m deal to sign the England international from Brighton after £ 40m and £ 47m bids were turned down by the South Coast Club.
Mikel Arteta wasted little time adding to his squad ahead of the 2021/22 season after his side finished eighth last season and missed out on European competition. The Spaniard recruited Nuno Tavares for £ 6.8million from Benfica and Albert Sambi Lokonga for £ 17.2 million off Anderlecht.

White, 23, was the subject of Leeds United’s interest last year after a fruitful championship loan helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side advance to the Premier League, but later requests were turned down by Graham Potters’ side, and he is one very successful appearance at Amex 2020/21.
His form culminated last month with Gareth Southgate receiving his first international for England while also being called up to his 26-man squad for Euro 2020 to replace injured Trent Alexander-Arnold, although he ultimately failed to make it Turf as a Nation reached the final.
With his North London arrival imminent, former England international Mills has questioned his decision to move to the capital, believing the versatile defender has a better chance of winning silver at a club like Man Utd .
Ben White’s versatility could be key for Mikel Arteta next season
Mills told talkSPORT: “The only thing I’m surprised about is that Ben White went to Arsenal.
“Let’s say he’ll be with Arsenal for at least two or three years before moving elsewhere.
“I just think he’s better than that.”
When asked why White should join another club, Mills replied, “Because he has a better chance of winning things. What will he win at Arsenal?
