Bruno Fernandes has been training with the Boavista youth club in his native Portugal while he is stepping up his pre-season fitness program.
The 26-year-old Fernandes has given Manchester United a longer break after participating in Euro 2020 with Portugal, where Fernando Santos’ men were eliminated in the round of 16 against Belgium, and conceded their title in the process.
Instead of lounging around or putting his feet up, however, Fernandes spent his summer lying on the tough yards with Boavista, with whom he spent most of his youth career, before moving to Novara, Italy in 2012.
The Porto club has a video for their official Twitter account Fernandes was tough on his “first love” before promising Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that his talisman playmaker would return to England for “even better” for the 2021/22 season.
The caption read: “Bruno Fernandes + Boavista FC – There is no love like the first.
“Man Utd don’t worry, it will be even better!”

Fernandes also took the opportunity to speak to Boavista fans and left a heartfelt message in which he referred to the Estadio do Bessa (Boavista Stadium) as his “home” before joining the The checkered ones good luck for the coming season.
Fernandes said: “Boavista fans, it’s always a pleasure to be here. I’m going back to the home I grew up in and where I have great memories.
“I would like to leave you a word for next season, wish you all the best and that this championship will be better than last year. May the best of last year be the worst of this year and that everything goes smoothly. “
Man Utd’s pre-season so far and comments on Jesse Lingard
Man Utd kicked off pre-season on Sunday when Solskjaer put his tactical wits against Wayne Rooney’s Derby County.
There has been a notable absence of key stars following involvements at Euro 2020 and Copa America, but absenteeism has been granted to players like Mason Greenwood, Juan Mata, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles. There was even a second half from Jesse Lingard.
The rejuvenated midfielder is returning to Old Trafford after his very successful loan from West Ham in the second half of last season, where he scored nine goals and provided four assists in just 16 Premier League games to bring David Moyes’ side to Europe to fire league.

His move to London was largely brought about after Fernandes’ arrival put him in the pecking order, but the 28-year-old didn’t let the competition put him off and headed back to the North West allegedly ready to fight for his place, despite the imminent arrival of Jadon Sancho.
West Ham is believed to have held back from the club’s £ 30m prize, while Solskjaer mentioned after defeating Derby that Lingard is very much on his “plans” for the 2021-22 season despite his great attacking talent Area.
Solskjaer said: “It was one of the positives. He’s a Manchester United player and wants to fight for his place.
“He came back bright, confident and full of energy. I think everyone saw what they did with West Ham at the end of last season.
“He’s still in my plans. I’ll be expecting him at the start of the season at Man Utd.
